Will 2026 Be the 'Year of the Bear'?

Last month was a roller coaster for stocks...

In a span of eight trading days, the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 6.1%. Similarly, the S&P 500 Index shed 4.5% in six trading days.

These may not sound like big moves, but remember how large the two major indexes are... Both of these pullbacks erased trillions of dollars of value.

On November 20 alone, the S&P 500 lost $1.5 trillion in market value in a 100-minute span. That equates to $15 billion being wiped out each minute. Just think about that. Let it sink in. Fifteen billion dollars per minute disappeared into thin air.

However, since then, the indexes have rebounded. As I write, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 are up 7.1% and 5.3%, respectively, from their November lows. Not only did they regain all their losses from last month, but they're both inching back toward all-time highs.

Volatile swings like these are obviously nerve-wracking for investors. They can happen with little to no warning and wreak havoc on your portfolio.

Even worse, my friend Marc Chaikin expects quick sell-offs like the one we saw in November to be a recurring theme throughout 2026.

Marc is the founder of our corporate affiliate Chaikin Analytics and a market veteran with 50-plus years of experience. He has seen it all. And he has also correctly predicted many of the market's twists and turns over the past five years...

He called the 2020 COVID-19 crash, the 2022 bear market, and April's tariff-induced meltdown weeks before they happened. Now, he's warning that 2026 could be the "year of the bear."

Marc believes we're headed for a bear market next year – and even more volatility. As a result, hundreds of individual stocks could experience surprise crashes. This means your portfolio may be in danger.

If Marc is right, it'll be more important than ever to know when you should sell in the short term so you can preserve your gains and prevent catastrophic losses. Luckily, he has a solution to this problem...

Marc has helped to develop a new sell signal for unpredictable, bearish market conditions. It was specifically designed to help investors prepare for 2026 and protect against quick drawdowns.

This new signal is highly sensitive to even the slightest bearish tremor in a stock, triggering a lightning-fast alert. It could be an invaluable asset to you and play a crucial role in preserving your wealth if conditions worsen.

Marc is hosting an online event on Tuesday, December 16 to cover all these details. He'll explain why he believes a bear market is looming, what a "flash crash" could mean for your portfolio, and how the new sell signal can help you. Plus, just for attending, you'll hear Marc's No. 1 stock you should buy and No. 1 stock you should sell before January 1.

This event is free to attend, but you must sign up ahead of time. Click here to learn more.

Sell Your Stocks by January 1?

In 2020, Marc Chaikin called the end of the longest bull market in history, weeks before stocks crashed more than 30%. Two years later, he sounded the alarm again, 90 days before stocks plummeted 20%. Now, he's calling for the next great bear market in 2026. On December 16, he'll tell you exactly how to prepare... including exactly when to SELL your stocks for the highest potential gains and the lowest possible losses. Learn more here.

Reader question of the week...

Q: Doc, in [your September 11] discussion of pickleball, you didn't mention the number one rule: DON'T BACK UP TO GET A LOB! If you [need to] run back, run sideways. – H.L.

A: Thanks for the great advice, H.L. If your opponent hits the ball high in the air, it's best to turn around or to the side and run for the ball. That's because you could lose your balance as you look up while backpedaling.

Regular exercise like pickleball improves your strength and balance – two key requirements for reducing your risk of falling and potentially suffering a nasty injury. But to manage your fall risk during the game, keep good form in mind.

I also recommend leaving your running shoes at home. Instead, put on a pair of court shoes (like tennis shoes). They're made to support your feet so that you're stable as you make those quick lateral moves.
