In reality, that double-dose of negativity acts like a vacuum. Once everyone who was going to panic-sell has finally exited, the selling pressure vanishes. This is why the bounce-back rate is actually higher when the previous month was also weak—the "weak hands" are already gone.   • Volatility’s Gravity: Think of the VIX (the "fear index") like a rubber band. When the market flushes 2%, that band stretches to its limit. Because the VIX has a natural "downside bias"—meaning it wants to settle back to normal more than the stock market wants to go up—betting on fear to fade is statistically safer than betting on a price rally. When the panic subsides, the VIX drops, and prices drift upward by default.   • The Tuesday Turnaround: After a big weekly drop, Monday is often a "hangover" day where the last bit of selling trickles out. The real strength typically builds from Tuesday through Friday.
