The Best Week Since November Just Ended. Here's Why the Next One Could Erase It. |
The numbers from this week look like a victory lap. The S&P 500 surged 3.6%. The Nasdaq climbed 4.7%. The Dow gained 3% and turned positive for the year. Wednesday's ceasefire-driven rally — Dow +1,326 points, the best day since April 2025 — was the kind of session that makes retail investors feel like the worst is over. |
It is not. Julius Baer's head of research, Christian Gattiker, put it precisely: markets moved "from shock to squeeze in a matter of hours" but "confidence in the durability of the ceasefire remains limited. The agreement is explicitly temporary and conditional. Markets remain firmly in traders' land, driven by sentiment and positioning rather than conviction." |
The ceasefire is 11 days from expiration. The Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed — shipping firms are refusing to send tankers because insurance costs and Iran's tolls make it unprofitable. Oil ended the week at $96.57 (WTI) and $95.20 (Brent), still 35%+ above pre-war levels. And bank earnings start Monday with Goldman Sachs, followed by JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, and Citi on Tuesday. These reports will reveal whether the six weeks of war have cracked credit conditions, consumer lending, or loan loss provisions. |

Stocks rallied. Gold rallied. Oil fell. But CPI hit 3.3% and GDP growth is at 1.3%. The rally is sentiment — not fundamentals.
|
The CPI Verdict: Headline Hot, Core Cool, Damage Done |
Friday's CPI report confirmed what five weeks of $100+ oil guaranteed: headline inflation surged to 3.3% year-over-year, driven by a 10.9% monthly energy spike and a 21.2% gasoline surge that accounted for three-quarters of the entire CPI increase. Real wages fell 0.6% in a single month. |
But core CPI — excluding food and energy — came in cooler than expected at 0.2% monthly and 2.6% annually. Shelter rose only 0.3%. Medical care prices declined. Used cars declined. Eggs fell 3.4% monthly (down 44.7% YoY). Goldman Sachs declared the Fed can "look through the energy-driven noise." |
The split creates a dangerous illusion. The Fed may be able to look through energy noise. Your gas bill cannot. Amazon announced a 3.5% fuel surcharge for third-party sellers starting April 17. UPS and FedEx have imposed higher fuel surcharges. Food prices will accelerate as diesel costs flow through supply chains. Oxford Economics warned the April CPI will be "uncomfortably strong." Capital Economics expects CPI to peak at 4% before declining to 3% by year-end — IF the ceasefire holds. |

Bank Earnings This Week — The Real Stress Test |
Goldman Sachs reports Monday morning. JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Citi, and BlackRock follow Tuesday. Morgan Stanley and Bank of America on Wednesday. This is the first earnings season since the war began — and bank results will reveal what the stock market rally is hiding. |
The questions that matter: How did trading desks perform during the oil spike? What do loan loss provisions look like after six weeks of war-driven uncertainty? Are consumers pulling back on credit in a $4+ gas environment? Are commercial real estate exposures getting worse? Is private credit showing stress? |
FactSet expects the S&P 500 financials sector to deliver 15.1% year-over-year earnings growth in Q1 — strong on paper. But the KBW Nasdaq Bank Index dropped 11% over the past two months. The market is pricing in risk that the earnings numbers alone may not show. The guidance is what matters — and in this environment, Schwab's Liz Ann Sonders warned the guidance will be "murkier" than usual. |
The Atlanta Fed's GDPNow estimate for Q1 fell to 1.3% on Thursday — the lowest since the war began. Q4 GDP was revised down to 0.5% from 0.7%. The economy is decelerating while stocks rally on ceasefire sentiment. That divergence between market performance and economic fundamentals is exactly what makes bank earnings the week's most important data point. |

The Satellite Revolution Nobody Is Pricing |
While Wall Street obsesses over the ceasefire and CPI, a structural shift is happening beneath the surface. Apple enabled Starlink satellite support on T-Mobile iPhones. SpaceX acquired $20 billion in spectrum from EchoStar and is deploying up to 15,000 next-generation Direct-to-Cell satellites. The result: global broadband coverage that bypasses terrestrial infrastructure entirely. |
This is not incremental — it is transformational. SpaceX is eliminating dead zones. For the first time, a smartphone in rural Kenya, in the Amazon rainforest, in outback Australia, or on a fishing boat off the coast of Indonesia can access the internet via satellite — no cell tower required. |
The companies positioned to capitalize on this are not the ones building the satellites. They are the ones building the applications that run on them. When 3 billion unbanked people gain smartphone access for the first time, the platforms that help them earn, save, and transact will see user bases multiply exponentially. Revenue grows with every new connection. And the satellite coverage guarantee — always on, everywhere, every device — eliminates the infrastructure barrier that has kept emerging market platforms small. |
The SpaceX IPO at $1.75 trillion (targeting June 2026) will formalize this shift. But the application-layer companies — the ones that turn satellite access into user revenue — are where the asymmetric returns live. By the time the IPO prices, the supply chain and application-layer stocks will have already repriced. |

SpaceX is preparing to go public — and it could be the most anticipated IPO ever. But here’s what almost nobody is talking about: this isn’t a rocket story. |
Former tech executive Jeff Brown — says everyone watching this IPO is focused on the wrong thing entirely. |
SpaceX is Elon’s AI master plan. |
He’s going public to raise the capital needed to run artificial intelligence from orbit — powered by the sun, cooled by the void of space, with no land restrictions and no electricity bills. |
Elon himself is predicting a 1,000x return. |
That turns $100 into $100,000. A $500 stake into $500,000. |
And everyday Americans can get in — right from a regular brokerage account — starting with as little as $500. |
But only before the filing hits the headlines. |
No accreditation required. No special connections. Jeff shows you exactly how to position yourself before the crowd rushes in on IPO day. |
Watch the presentation now — and see why he’s calling this the single most important investing opportunity of 2026. |
