Anthropic just confirmed it's building an in-house chip design team. |
It’s a significant development for the world’s leading AI frontier lab. And it could help justify a staggering IPO valuation of $2 - $3 trillion. |
Here’s the easy way to invest in Anthropic, OpenAI and dozens of Pre-IPOs. |
The maker of the Claude AI models is hiring engineers to design custom silicon. The job listings pay $320,000 to $485,000 and demand candidates who have personally "shipped silicon." |
The instant reaction on Wall Street: another customer walking away from Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). |
I think that reading is wrong. Let me show you why. |
Start with Anthropic's growth. The company's annualized revenue run rate has exploded: |
December 2024: $1 billion
December 2025: $9 billion
April 2026: $30 billion
May 2026: $47 billion
August 2026: $71 billion (est.)
|
That's 71x growth in 20-months — the fastest revenue ramp in software history. The company raised $65 billion in May at a $965 billion valuation and filed a confidential S-1 on June 1. |
Investors who buy Pre-IPO shares now could be looking at huge gains – with an IPO expected within 90 days. Go here to get in before the Nasdaq listing. |
At that scale, compute is the single biggest cost of running the business. Designing an advanced AI chip costs roughly $500 million, according to industry estimates. Against a $71 billion run rate, that's less than 1% of annual revenue. The math makes custom silicon an obvious move. |
Every major company working on AI is now investing in its own chips: |
· OpenAI unveiled its Jalapeño inference chip with Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) in June. |
· Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) puts its next-generation AI chip into production in September. |
· Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has run its own TPUs for a decade — and Anthropic ordered up to one million of them last fall. |
Here's the detail most headlines skipped. |
Anthropic says it will keep a "multi-chip approach" — with hardware from Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), Amazon, and Google remaining central to its buildout. The company is reportedly in talks with Samsung Electronics as a manufacturing partner. |
This news doesn’t mean that Anthropic will stop buying chips from Nvidia. The real story is that demand for AI compute so enormous that even the number one AI company can't get its hands on enough chips. Custom silicon adds supply to the system — it doesn't subtract from Nvidia. |
The market seems to agree. Nvidia sits at a $5.3 trillion market cap — the most valuable company in the world — with shares trading around $224. The stock has staged a rally since late June. |

Every time a headline says "AI giant designs its own chips," the real story is the same: the compute buildout keeps getting bigger. And the company behind this one just filed to go public in what could be one of the largest IPOs ever. |
Don’t wait for Anthropic to start trading. |
Here’s how to invest – at a Pre-IPO discount. |
