Oil climbed again. The Hormuz deal looked further away. Tech slipped. And CPI was waiting on later this morning. |
So, naturally, everyone got cautious. |
The Nasdaq fell 0.6% ▼, the S&P 500 lost 0.3% ▼, and the Dow slipped 0.3% ▼.
But underneath the red, more S&P stocks actually rose than fell — while value and equal-weight indexes quietly hit fresh records. |
In other words, investors weren’t running for the exits. |
They were just standing a little closer to them. |
Now CPI gets the next move.
It lands at 8:30 a.m. ET, with headline inflation expected to cool to 3.4% YoY and core to 2.5% — a hotter print could quickly revive September hike bets; Cisco reports after the bell, with PPI following Thursday. |
Macro Moves:
The 10-year Treasury yield held near 4.70% as bond markets waited on CPI, the Dollar Index barely moved at 99.82, the yen hovered around 159 per dollar despite recent intervention, and Bitcoin slipped ~0.8% as investors kept risk-taking in check.

Superforecast. |
|
|
Supermicro’s quarter was a little messy. Its forecast wasn’t. |
The AI server maker beat on earnings but narrowly missed revenue, then told investors to expect $14.5B–$15.5B in Q1 sales — miles ahead of Wall Street’s $11.9B estimate. |
That was enough to send shares up more than 6% after hours and nearly **10% in early premarket trading. |
And there was plenty behind the confidence: |
→ $60B+ in new orders over the past year
→ Record backlog entering fiscal 2027
→ 17.6% gross margin, up from 9.6% a year ago
→ Plans to help build a gigawatt-scale data center for SpaceX and xAI |
The interesting part? Supermicro has spent the past year watching its AI-infrastructure peers leave it behind — shares are down roughly 30%, while Dell has more than tripled. |
One big forecast doesn’t erase that gap. But it finally gave investors a reason to look again.

President Trump just went on record: the AI data center buildout sweeping America is unstoppable. s Communities across the country have been pushing back – over rising electricity bills, strained water supplies, and projects landing next door to homes and schools. But the AI buildout isn't slowing down. In fact, Elon Musk's master plan – hidden inside SpaceX – avoids every obstacle. Analyst Rob Spivey says folks who understand what Elon is building – and why – could make a lot of money in the right stocks. |

Starting Small-ish. |

|
Accel just raised $3.5 billion to find the next generation of AI startups. |
That sounds like a lot for “early stage.” These days, apparently, it isn’t. |
The VC firm behind Anthropic, Cursor and Perplexity raised four new funds as AI startups increasingly raise larger amounts of money earlier in their lives. Accel has already seen that shift firsthand: last year it joined a $300 million seed round for Periodic Labs that valued the young AI research company at $1.3 billion. |
The new money spreads the bet globally: |
→ $1.35B for larger early-stage rounds and follow-on investments
→ $800M for the U.S.
→ $800M for Europe and Israel
→ $550M for India |
But Accel is also widening what counts as an AI investment. The firm has expanded beyond software and infrastructure into manufacturing, materials science and other deep-tech industries, betting AI can reshape physical businesses the way traditional software reshaped digital ones. |
And the checks are getting bigger because the companies are getting more ambitious — sometimes before they've had much time to prove themselves. |
What This Means → The AI boom isn't just pushing valuations higher. It's changing how early “early-stage” money gets serious. Accel is raising billions to get in sooner, because waiting for the winners to become obvious may now mean waiting too long. |

The $15 Lunch Is Going Extinct |
|
|
The humble cheeseburger just became an economic indicator. |
DoorDash’s new “Cheeseburger Index” tracks the average cost of a burger, fries and a soda across the country. Over the past year, that very scientific basket got 3.2% more expensive — and the once-reliable $15 meal is getting surprisingly hard to find. |
Only four cities in the report still came in below $15: |
→ $12.94 — Austin
→ $13.39 — Laredo
→ $13.86 — Lincoln
→ $14.99 — Detroit |
Then there’s Anchorage, where the exact same order averages $28.28 — more than twice the price in Austin. |
DoorDash says the difference isn't simply the burger. Labor, rent, energy and other local operating costs increasingly determine what ends up on the menu. |
And the squeeze goes well beyond takeout. Grocery prices are now 32% higher than five years ago, while a recent poll found 66% of Americans say groceries have become unaffordable. |
What This Means → Inflation reports can tell you prices are rising. A $28 cheeseburger combo makes the point a little faster. |
