Pull Up (VUZI) While It’s Still Early…

September 23, 2026

Dear Reader,

Wednesday is getting started with Vuzix® Corporation (Nasdaq: VUZI) near the top of our watchlist.

Its combination of waveguide manufacturing, enterprise smart glasses, and a new AI data center initiative is giving us plenty to follow.

Two numbers tell the story before anything else does…

The first: according to TrendForce, the combined co-packaged optics and near-package optics market could grow from approximately $100M in 2025 to more than $39B by 2030.

The second: one company sitting at the center of that transition has already made an approximately 48% move since late July — from around $2.12 on July 29 to $3.15 in recent weeks, according to Barchart.

Those two data points are connected.

And the company connecting them is one most people still associate with smart glasses.

Vuzix® Corporation (Nasdaq: VUZI) announced in August that it began shipping its first Causeway™ waveguide bridge samples to prospective customers and industry partners for AI data center optical interconnect applications, including co-packaged optics (CPO) architectures.

That means a 29-year-old optical manufacturing company — with more than 500 patents, U.S.-based waveguide production, and active enterprise and defense programs — just entered one of the fastest-expanding infrastructure segments in the AI supply chain.

What makes this worth examining closely is the convergence of timing, capability, and market demand.

And with those pieces now coming together, (VUZI) is topping our watchlist this morning — Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The evidence is worth laying out piece by piece.

The Market That's Forcing the Transition

The shift from copper to optical interconnects inside AI data centers isn't speculative…

It's being driven by physics.

As data transmission rates advance from 100 Gbps per lane toward 200 Gbps and eventually 400 Gbps per lane, copper interconnects face compounding constraints — signal degradation, heat generation, and rising power consumption per bit.

Data centers consumed approximately 4.4% of total U.S. electricity in 2023 and are projected to account for roughly 6.7% to 12% by 2028, according to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory data cited by Vuzix.

Optical interposers and planar optical structures are being evaluated across the industry as a means of routing light more efficiently within dense compute packages — reducing energy consumption while increasing data rates.

TrendForce forecasts that growth in the CPO/NPO segment will accelerate sharply between 2028 and 2029 as scale-up architectures begin incorporating optical interconnect technologies.

That timeline matters for Vuzix® Corporation (Nasdaq: VUZI) because the company is shipping evaluation hardware now — not announcing a roadmap, not showing prototypes, but putting physical samples into the hands of semiconductor, photonics, and advanced packaging partners.

The distinction matters.

The CPO/NPO space is attracting attention from some of the largest companies in the semiconductor supply chain.

But Vuzix' approach draws on a specific technical foundation that most new entrants don't have: over two decades of designing and manufacturing diffractive waveguides for wearable displays, where light management, compact form factors, precision replication, and scalable manufacturing are core competencies.

Those are the exact disciplines that become critical as optical interconnects move closer to compute and switching silicon.

The Causeway evaluation kit is designed to support testing of up to 19,200 parallel optical channels over an approximately 30 mm optical path — pairing Vuzix planar waveguide architecture with microLED emitter and photodetector test structures for insertion-loss measurement, coupling studies, crosstalk evaluation, and packaging development.

The company is also developing waveguide samples for VCSEL sources, broadening compatibility across emitter types.

"This is our first step in applying Vuzix' optical expertise, waveguide design experience, and manufacturing capabilities to AI data center optical interconnects," said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix® Corporation (Nasdaq: VUZI), in the August 18 press release.

The Enterprise and Defense Evidence

The optical interconnect angle is new…

But there's a deep body of evidence underneath it — enterprise customer programs, defense production deployments, and OEM relationships that have been building for years.

According to the company's Q2 2026 earnings report, Vuzix delivered initial next-generation Ultralite Pro glasses to Amazon for live commercial testing and expanded M400 deployments across Amazon's fulfillment centers.

Amazon expanding its footprint with Vuzix hardware is a meaningful data point — it signals that the devices are passing real-world workflow validation at the largest scale in logistics.

That kind of validation from a company known for testing aggressively and scaling only what works carries weight.

On the defense side, the evidence is equally concrete…

The Collins Aerospace program has moved into initial production deployments for drone-related AR display systems.

A Tier-1 defense supplier has placed a development order for a next-generation waveguide-based head-mounted display.

A U.S.-based waveguide design and manufacturing program is expected to begin.

And a leading global automaker is evaluating a waveguide-based factory-floor solution — another data point suggesting that Vuzix' optical capability has applications well beyond wearable displays.

What ties all of these programs together is a common thread: customer-funded development.

Rather than building speculatively, Vuzix is advancing programs where customers help fund the path toward production — a more capital-efficient model that preserves runway while generating real-world feedback.

Augmex, an enterprise smart glasses solutions provider, placed a follow-on order for M400 and LX1 smart glasses to support its U.S. market launch across warehousing, logistics, and field service — extending a series of orders that began in December 2024.

The pattern here is repeat orders — not first-time evaluations.

When a channel partner comes back multiple times and expands into a new geography, it suggests the end-customer feedback loop is working.

Meanwhile, the broader market tailwind continues to build…

According to MarketsandMarkets, the global smart glasses market is expected to grow from $878.8M in 2024 to $4.13B by 2030, at a 29.4% CAGR.

Vuzix operates across both sides of that growth — selling branded smart glasses directly into enterprise channels and supplying OEM waveguide components and display engines to partners building their own devices.

The Manufacturing Foundation and Balance Sheet

Evidence of a credible data center optics entry requires more than a press release…

It requires manufacturing capability that can actually produce optical components at scale.

Vuzix® Corporation (Nasdaq: VUZI) designs and builds diffractive waveguides on custom-assembled nanoimprint lithography lines at its Rochester, New York facility — in-house process control over nanoscale optical structures, not contract manufacturing.

That distinction is worth emphasizing.

In optical manufacturing, the process is the product.

Yield learning, replication consistency, and inspection feedback loops are what separate a company that can demonstrate a capability from one that can deliver it at production scale.

According to the company's June 2026 shareholder presentation, the Rochester facility is being reconfigured to support multiple OEM, defense, and waveguide programs running in parallel — with new high-speed imprint capacity being installed, additional automation improving throughput and repeatability, and expanded in-line inspection and quality control within the clean room.

The financial foundation supports the execution plan…

The company held $17.3M in cash with no debt as of June 30, 2026, per its Q2 earnings report, and has reduced annual cash operating expenses by approximately 25% since 2024.

Quanta Computer — one of the world's largest ODMs — holds a 13.6% ownership position backed by a $20M strategic commitment, creating a multi-phase waveguide design and supply relationship for AR smart glasses programs.

That structure — ODM reach combined with Vuzix optical engine capability — is designed to support multiple hardware programs rather than being tied to a single consumer device.

The data here tells a specific story…

A company with proven optical manufacturing capability, active customer programs across enterprise, defense, and automotive verticals, strategic ODM backing, and a clean balance sheet has now entered one of the highest-growth infrastructure segments tied to the AI buildout.

The smart glasses business provides customer access, use-case validation, and revenue.

The waveguide manufacturing provides a defensible technical core that applies to both wearable displays and data center optics.

And the Causeway launch provides a tangible entry point — with hardware already shipping — into a market projected to exceed $39B by the end of the decade.

We have all eyes on (VUZI) this morning.

Pull up (VUZI) while it’s still early.

Sincerely,

Gary Silver
