Medicine Crossed a New Line

I’m only 32. That’s young enough that I’m supposed to feel like time is on my side. But after the health scares I had in the last two years, I stopped feeling that way.

I was waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air. It felt like my throat was closing and I was breathing through a straw.

Doctors couldn’t figure out why.

I had an upper endoscopy. I had tubes stuck down my nose four times. Medication helped at first, but then the problem came back.

I’m feeling much better now. But getting there meant taking three daily medications, eliminating acidic foods and drinks, and eventually discovering that I’m very allergic to some of the most common trees in South Florida.

It took me eight months, a half dozen doctors, and $10,000 to figure that out.

I was fortunate enough to have the money to keep looking. Not long before my health problems started, I’d made $1 million in the crypto markets in about 12 months. I was ecstatic. I felt like years of due diligence and determination had paid off.

That’s what makes last month’s breakthrough so important.

If you’ve followed the news, you might’ve seen the breakthrough from Merck and Moderna on August 19.

They announced positive Phase 3 results for their high-risk melanoma therapy. It’s meant to be used alongside Merck’s Keytruda.

It was the first positive Phase 3 result ever for an individualized mRNA cancer therapy. That’s what makes it so remarkable.

The 1,137-patient trial showed that the combination did two things. One, it delayed cancer recurrence. And two, it performed better at preventing the disease from spreading elsewhere.

Here’s how it works…

Doctors take a sample of a patient’s tumor and sequence it. AI algorithms then analyze its mutations and identify up to 34 potential “neoantigens” (or abnormal cancer-specific targets) most likely to trigger an immune response.

Moderna uses those targets to build a personalized mRNA treatment designed to help the patient’s own immune system recognize and attack the cancer.

In other words, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all vaccine. It’s built around the biology of one person’s cancer.

One cardiologist put the significance this way in an X post:

And this week, Phase 3 results confirmed it works.

After what I went through, I’m incredibly excited about the potential for more targeted medical treatments.

Wall Street Noticed Too

We’re not talking about a tiny speculative biotech here. Merck (MRK) is a blue-chip pharma giant worth roughly $370 billion.

Yet it jumped 13% the morning the news broke.

With a company of this size, that’s the kind of return you usually hope to earn over an entire year. Merck did it before lunch.

For members of our flagship letter, The Asymmetric Edge, that’s good news.

Teeka originally pushed me to dig into Big Pharma as a potential AI opportunity last year. That led to our initial Merck recommendation on December 23, 2025.

By the summer of this year, we believed the thesis had gotten even stronger.

In the August 6 Asymmetric Edge issue, we revisited the sector, focusing on three blue-chip pharma names.

One of those names was Merck. We reaffirmed it as a “Buy” and even raised our buy-up-to price to $135. Here’s how I put it in that issue:

Merck isn’t just using AI to write reports faster or cut administrative costs. AI is helping select what goes into an individualized medicine.

At the time, Phase 3 still had to confirm the results. Thirteen days later, that’s exactly what happened. Merck shares are now up 16% since our issue published one month ago, and up 46% overall since our initial December recommendation.

To be clear, I didn’t know the announcement was coming.

But that wasn’t the bet.

Our bet was that AI was getting close to producing real clinical proof… and that Big Pharma was one of the most overlooked ways to position for it.

This Is Much Bigger Than One Vaccine

Most investors still think about AI through the obvious winners: Nvidia, chips, data centers, software.

But Teeka and I believe AI can create enormous value somewhere else: by making existing industries better at what they already do.

Big Pharma already has the things AI startups often lack: mountains of proprietary data, experienced scientists, clinical infrastructure, manufacturing capacity, regulatory know-how, and billions of dollars to fund development.

The bottleneck is often finding better drug targets, eliminating failures sooner, and moving successful medicines through development more efficiently.

That’s where AI can change Big Pharma’s economics.

Most drug candidates fail. And every bad candidate that survives too long wastes years and millions of dollars.

If AI can help researchers kill weak ideas earlier and push stronger ones forward faster, the payoff isn’t limited to one breakthrough drug. It can make R&D as a whole more productive.

McKinsey & Company, a global consulting firm, estimates AI could cut drug discovery timelines by as much as 50% and generate $60 billion-$110 billion in economic value.

This isn’t hypothetical. Merck says AI is already cutting some early drug-development timelines by 30% or more. And that’s before an AI-assisted medicine ever reaches the pharmacy shelf.

This is why Merck – and other names in our Asymmetric Edge model portfolio – is an AI play even though it doesn’t look like one.

Now, this story is far from over.

The treatment still has to clear regulatory review. The full Phase 3 numbers aren’t even public yet. And Merck and Moderna are testing this approach beyond melanoma.

More importantly, our Merck thesis doesn’t depend on one medicine. The bigger opportunity is AI making Merck’s entire drug-development pipeline faster and more productive.

That’s why we still see substantial upside ahead. Based on our research, Merck could climb another 172% by 2030.

Merck Is Only One Way to Play It

In last month’s Asymmetric Edge issue, we highlighted two other blue-chip pharma companies positioned to benefit as AI reshapes drug development.

Out of respect for our paid subscribers, I can’t reveal those names here. But across all three, our models point to potential upside as high as 357%.

These are exactly the kinds of opportunities Big T talked about in his recent briefing, “Nvidia’s $16 Trillion Paycheck Program.”

In that video, Teeka walks through the small group of companies we believe could benefit most from the next stage of AI… without buying another share of Nvidia.

His point is simple: Some of the best AI opportunities are hiding in established blue-chip companies. Merck is one example.
