Dear Reader,
Yesterday, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping sat down in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. No pleasantries about shared values with Washington. Just two leaders who control energy reserves, manufacturing supply chains, and trade corridors that Wall Street prefers not to think about.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's 25th anniversary summit ended August 31 with a clear signal: the bloc covering 40% of the world's population and 36% of global GDP is consolidating. Fast.
Here's what the Western financial press covered instead: the Fed.
Inside today's issue:

WHAT HAPPENED
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit convened August 31 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Putin and Xi held a formal bilateral on the sidelines. The joint statement covered three areas: energy trade corridors, BRICS settlement infrastructure, and Middle Corridor connectivity through Central Asia to Indian Ocean ports.
The numbers behind the meeting matter more than the optics. Russia and China now settle approximately 95% of their bilateral trade in rubles and yuan, up from roughly 25% before the 2022 sanctions wave. That infrastructure is not aspirational. It is operational.
China's cross-border interbank payment system, CIPS, now connects 1,690 direct and indirect participants across 121 countries. The SCO's 10 full members, including China, India, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, account for more than 40% of global GDP.
The EU dispatched its own diplomatic team to the region on the same days. They left with $12 billion in Kazakhstan trade agreements. The SCO left with a framework for a long-promised development bank, new energy deals, and a Trans-Afghan Corridor linking Central Asian infrastructure directly to Indian Ocean shipping lanes.
You'd think the obvious play is to short U.S. dollar dominance. Hold that thought.

THE INVESTOR ANGLE
The dollar short is not the play. Not yet.
De-dollarization at the SCO level is real. But the friction is, too. China's banks are quietly throttling payments to Russian counterparties to avoid secondary sanctions. The yuan ranks fourth in global reserves. The dollar still holds first place by a factor of eight.
What Bishkek signals is not dollar collapse. It is the slow, structural buildout of parallel trade infrastructure that eventually gives commodity exporters, energy producers, and manufacturing nations an exit ramp from the dollar system. That exit takes years to become a mass capital flow event.
The Middle Corridor, running from China through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and into Turkey and Europe, moved $6.7 billion in cargo in 2025 and is accelerating. The Trump administration now calls it the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. Both sides of the aisle see the value in controlling it.
Assets tied to commodity corridors and energy logistics outside the dollar payment rails are gaining long-term structural tailwinds regardless of near-term Fed moves. Real assets. Physical production. Infrastructure in geographies the U.S. cannot directly sanction.
The Fed will dominate every financial headline this week. The SCO won't. Investors who read both rooms will be positioned when the next settlement framework goes live.
Stay free.
