Amazon founder Jeff Bezos quit retirement – and is now CEO of a new startup. |
It’s called Project Prometheus. And it’s targeting a new $5 trillion opportunity, according to Morgan Stanley. |

Jeff Bezos just shared details on Blue Origin’s plans to go public. |
“I think, someday, Blue Origin will have an IPO. It would be several years from now. But it probably makes sense for Blue Origin to be a public company at some point." |
That was Bezos speaking with Fox News' Bret Baier on Wednesday from the company's Florida rocket factory. |
Blue Origin (private) Founded: 2000 Latest valuation: about $140 billion 2025 revenue: about $800 million |
For 26 years, Blue Origin ran almost entirely on Bezos's money. He's put in about $28 billion, closer to $30 billion by some counts once his check in the new round is included. For years, he funded it by selling roughly $1 billion of Amazon stock annually. |
Bezos Project Prometheus just launched with a $41 billion valuation. And Bezos took over as CEO. Here’s why he’s betting on this new stock. |
That changed in July, when Blue Origin opened its first outside round at a $130 billion pre-money valuation. Coatue Management anchored with about $4 billion. CEO Dave Limp said last week the round is oversubscribed at $10 billion. Bezos left the door open to raising more private money before any listing. |
Now the numbers that matter. |
Blue Origin forecasts about $1.4 billion in revenue this year. At $140 billion, it's valued at roughly 175 times last year's sales. SpaceX (Nasdaq: SPCX) trades near 87 times trailing revenue, on a business nearly 30 times larger. |
Documents reviewed by the Wall Street Journal show an internal target of more than $30 billion in revenue by 2030. |
That depends on New Glenn flying far more often. |
New Glenn has flown only a handful of missions. In May, a ground-test explosion destroyed a rocket and damaged its Florida launch pad. Bezos says the next flight is targeted for December. Until a second pad is ready, the growth plan runs through a single launch complex. |
Blue Origin is also counting on two new lines of business. |
1. TeraWave is a satellite network for enterprise and government customers. |
2. Project Sunrise is a planned constellation of about 56,000 satellites built to run AI computing from space. |
There is real backlog. Blue Origin holds multibillion-dollar NASA and Space Force contracts, including Artemis moon work. Amazon has also hired it to launch satellites for its Amazon Leo network. |
A Blue Origin IPO isn’t possible until the company is on more solid footing. That would require New Glenn flying reliably next year, TeraWave gets satellites in orbit and Project Sunrise begins launching its AI data center satellites. |
Until then – Blue Origin will remain private and largely funded by Jeff Bezos. |
Bezos recently accepted a new job as CEO of Prometheus. It’s a massive new bet on Artificial Intelligence. And there’s still time for you to invest ahead of the IPO. |
