3 Things That Could Move Stocks on Monday: ISM, Apple, Palantir Monday, Nov. 2, starts with a check on U.S. factories and ends with earnings from two of the market's biggest tech names. Here is the schedule. 1. ISM Manufacturing PMI at 10:00 a.m. ETThe Institute for Supply Management surveys purchasing managers at factories every month. A reading above 50 means manufacturing grew, and below 50 means it shrank. The October report is due at 10:00 a.m. ET. September's reading was 54.5, down from 54.6 in August and short of the 55 forecast, according to Trading Economics. Its own forecast for October is 54.7, and no analyst consensus was published as of Oct. 30. The September prices index jumped to 77.9 from 71.1, which Trading Economics ties to steel, aluminum, tariffs and petroleum-based products. Factory costs are one piece of the inflation picture that shapes talk about interest rates. 2. Apple earnings after the closeApple is scheduled to report fiscal fourth-quarter results after the close, with a call at 5:00 p.m. ET, the company says. As of Oct. 30, Nasdaq (citing Zacks) showed a consensus EPS forecast of $1.98 from 7 analysts. Yahoo Finance's average revenue estimate from 25 analysts was $113.32 billion, about 11% above the $102.47 billion of a year earlier. Last quarter, reported July 30, Apple posted revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16%, and diluted EPS of $2.02. That included a $0.11 boost from tariff refunds. The stock closed at $308.91 on Friday, July 31, down 7.4% from the prior close. 3. Palantir earnings after the closePalantir is scheduled to release third-quarter results after the close, with a webcast at 5:00 p.m. ET. As of Oct. 30, Nasdaq (citing Zacks) showed a consensus EPS forecast of $0.33 from 10 analysts. Yahoo Finance's average revenue estimate from 24 analysts was $2.18 billion, about 85% above the $1.18 billion of a year earlier. In its second-quarter release, Palantir reported revenue of $1.94 billion, up 93% from a year earlier, and adjusted EPS of $0.41. Its CEO credited demand for what he called AI sovereignty. The shares closed at $162.66 on Tuesday, Aug. 4, up 29.45% from the prior close. What It Means for YouEarnings reports can move a stock far in either direction, and Palantir's 29.45% jump last quarter shows how big that swing can be. Expectations matter as much as results. A strong quarter can still disappoint if investors hoped for more. Apple's $0.11 tariff refund is a reminder to check what is in an EPS number before comparing it with a year ago. One-time items can make a quarter look better or worse than the underlying business. The ISM reading is one survey of purchasing managers. A single month can be revised or reversed, so it works best as one clue among many.
