Tesla Beats EPS as S&P and Nasdaq Surge to All-Time Highs |
Wall Street and Asian markets roared to record highs Wednesday as a strong start to Q1 earnings season eased concerns about the U.S. economy. The S&P 500 climbed 1% and the Nasdaq jumped 1.6% to fresh all-time records. Tesla topped expectations after-hours — posting $0.41/share EPS vs. $0.37 expected — though revenue at $22.39bn came in just short. Auto margins improved to 19.2% and energy storage margins hit a record 39.5%. Shares initially surged 4% then pared gains after Tesla disclosed plans to spend $5bn above prior guidance this year. Rising oil prices tied to the Iran conflict remain the key risk lurking beneath the rally. |

Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire Indefinitely — Blockade Stays, Talks Stall |
President Trump on Tuesday indefinitely extended the U.S.-Iran ceasefire — originally set to expire Wednesday — after Pakistan's PM Sharif requested more time for diplomacy. Trump says Iran's "fractured" leadership must unify around a proposal before talks restart. The U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports stays in place. Overnight, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard gunboat attacked a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, causing heavy damage to the bridge — all crew safe. The UN secretary-general called the extension "an important step toward de-escalation." Secretary Rubio is set to join Israel-Lebanon talks at the State Department on Thursday. |

Meta Is Logging Every Click and Keystroke Its Employees Make |
Meta has begun installing tracking software on U.S. employees' work computers — capturing mouse movements, clicks, and keystrokes — to use as training data for AI agents. The tool is called the Model Capability Initiative (MCI). Meta says: "If we're building agents to help people complete everyday tasks, our models need real examples of how people actually use them." Employees already bracing for deeper job cuts — Meta has laid off ~2,000 this year — call it "very dystopian." Meta plans to spend roughly $140 billion on AI in 2026, almost double last year, as it races to build autonomous agents capable of performing everyday computer tasks without human input. |
